About  Us

Thank you for choosing Southern Illinois and St. Louis Hernia Centers.  Our practice was created with the specific intention of providing state of the art diagnostic and treatment services for commonly encountered hernias.  Most hernias can be identified on routine physical exam.  In general, these abnormalities should always be repaired.  Left unrepaired, they can lead to very serious consequences.  Incarceration and strangulation can cut off the blood supply to the intestine.  Without blood flow, the trapped intestine will become gangrenous and die.  Thus, a life threatening situation is created.

Symptoms consistent with abdominal wall hernia include protruding bulge, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, constipation, and urinary difficulties.

Causes of a hernia include heavy lifting or pulling, excessive coughing, straining at bowel movement or urination, significant weight gain or loss, enlarged prostate or intestinal obstruction, previous surgery, and lastly congenital phenomenon.

Dr. Kirkland believes that good judgment, a well thought out treatment plan, and excellent surgical skill are the main variables leading to a successful outcome.

                                                                 Dedicated  to Excellence

We hold ourselves to a high level of excellence in every aspect of our practice. This includes the care we provide, the equipment we use, the health and safety protocols we follow, and the incidental services we offer. Above all, our aim is to provide each of our patients with an optimal Hernia Care Centers experience.

The Importance of Patient Education

A key part of preventing a health care problem from progressing is being aware as to how they can develop. We strongly believe that patient education is an important part of the services we provide. In addition to talking with our patients during their exams, we have a ready supply of patient education materials such as brochures and information sheets in our office. We encourage our patients to read about their condition and ask us questions about how to stay healthy.

Thank you for choosing us to be your Hernia Care Provider.
